How to learn SQL and gain an SQL Job

Structured Query Language (SQL) is a form of computer language specifically designed for use with databases. SQL is used to share and manage data, a popular use of which is to manage loyalty card systems such as Tesco Clubcard. SQL enables the user to sort through and share specific customer types with other departments. As a result, for a firm such as Tesco, they can identify which special offers will be most attractive to specific customers based on their purchasing patterns and ensure that the appropriate vouchers are sent with each monthly Clubcard statement.
SQL is actually easier for beginners to learn than other programming languages such as Java and C++. There are numerous resources out there to help you gain the foundation knowledge that you require. There will be courses on offer in local colleges, and if not, it's nothing a simple Google search can't fix. This is probably the best option if you have little or no programming knowledge and are looking into getting an SQL Job. However, these courses can be extremely expensive and time consuming.

If you are working on a budget there are still a number of options available to you. There are numerous tutorial books at there that could be of use. These books really are not given enough credit. They break everything down so that it is much easier to understand than most of the textbooks you can purchase that are accompanied by at least 200 pages worth of jargon that a beginner is unlikely to understand. If you are one of those people who just do not absorb the information they read in a book, there are also a wide range of video tutorials available online.

Another option of expanding your knowledge of SQL would be to download a smart phone or tablet app that presents you with video tutorials. It is worth having a look on your platform's relevant app store and reading some reviews to decide whether or not some of the apps out there will satisfy your needs.

There are a great number of positions that require skills in SQL, some are listed below and a great deal more can be found on the Technojobs website. If you are someone who is an IT job and perhaps fancy a change of career or just someone who is looking to learn more about computers, SQL should be high up on your list of priorities.
